For over 2 years, I’ve watched my two primary sites languish in never land. I had hardly any visitors and no page rank to speak of . My page rank was 0.
Then I decided to redesign one site – The Home Work Directory. I was fed up waiting for traffic. It took about 6 weeks after I put it back up, but it went to PR-1 on Google. The redesign worked – not exactly a blistering pace, but I can live with it.
Empowered, I decided to completely redesign my second site – The Home Business Web.
This time I went to page rank 1 in about 2 weeks. Applying what I learned over 2 years, it’s possible. I did my homework by choosing the necessary keywords, sprinkle here, baste there. It does work if you take your time and do the keyword research.
It really is a game. But it’s one you need to play if you want results. I’m talking money and visitors. I learned from one of the best originally. His name is Erich Winneke. He started something called TOPS- (Top Online Profits) and the 3 phase program. I feel like I owe him a lot. I got serious about my businesses after that, especially the need to design them myself.
Game On!
Google basically invented the game and you need to play. You’ll earn what you learn.
For the longest time I was afraid of Pay Per Click (PPC). I thought my money would be sucked into a big black hole with nothing to show for it. I finally tried it – with Google – and got excellent results. They were very fair with me and my sponsored ad always appeared on the first page from the first position to the sixth under the sponsored ads section. You never even had to scroll down to see it! Thanks Google!
What did I advertise? This - Yes it’s that good! I was very happy with the results I got from Google, and GDI is a wonderful business. I received numerous signups.
I also needed to know how exactly to how to follow up with my signups. This was another area I used to have a little trouble with. I solved that with Magnetic Sponsoring. Mike Dillard is the master in this area. I bought his book and read it over again when I can. It shows you how to become “the hunted instead of the hunter”.
If you want to see your webpage exactly the way a search engine would you need to use a text browser like Lynx. As Google puts it “ Use a text browser such as Lynx to examine your site, because most search engine spiders see your site much as Lynx would. If fancy features such as JavaScript, cookies, session IDs, frames, DHTML, or Flash keep you from seeing all of your site in a text browser, then search engine spiders may have trouble crawling your site.”
It’s very easy to do and literally took me 5 minutes for my sites. First, go here: http://www.delorie.com/web/howto-allow.html
and create a new blank webpage with the url checks. Copy the nine lines of code exactly and paste into your site builder. Save this file as “delorie.htm” as they suggest then upload it to your server in the public html area. This will work for all your pages after you upload it and just tells delorie that you actually own the site you’re trying to test.
That’s it! Now you can see your webpage exactly as a search engine spider would and make any adjustments you deem necessary. For instance, I found I had 2 random “dots” in my navbar heading that had no reason being there, so I removed them.
It’s interesting to see how the spiders view your page. Why not take a few minutes and make sure you site is search engine ready?
